Media about us: Sports Federation of Athletics — Russian record set at the Backyard Ultra race near St. Petersburg
Every hour, the participants had to overcome a cross-country circle of 6706 meters. Athletes passed the circle at their own pace, and the remaining time from the hour was used for rest and recovery.
The run continues as long as at least one participant continues to run within the time limit. Who does not go to a new circle, he is eliminated from the competition. The absolute winner is the last and only participant who went to the circle and finished. “To be the first, you need to be the last!”, says the motto of the race.
Vasily Korytkin from Kemerovo became the winner. He ran 46 laps and set a Russian record in the races of the Backyard Ultra family — 306 km 476 m! The average speed of the runner for almost two days is 5:06 min / km, and he ran the last lap in less than half an hour. Irina Masanova from Nizhny Novgorod covered just one less lap (301 km 77 m) to set the Russian Backyard record for women.
Athletes from our city showed good results. The third place in the overall standings was taken by the head of the Pacemakers of St. Petersburg team Alexei Belousov, having run 38 laps or 254 km 828 m. He also became the first among men in the age category over 39 years old. The third result in the same age category was shown by Sergey Kadesnikov. For women in the category over 39 years old, the first three places were taken by St. Petersburg women: Elena Gavrilova, Maria Arsenyeva, Margarita Kloss.
A total of 122 people took part in the race. All participants were provided with three hot meals a day. The organizer of the event was a sports entrepreneur Nikolai Kotenkov, who, together with the rest of the participants, overcame 30 laps or 201 kilometers.
The idea for the elimination circuit came from Lazarus Lake (real name Gary Cantrell). The Backyard ultra format was founded in 2012 and quickly spread around the world. According to the rules, you can not run with a support group, use trekking poles. The route can be virtually any, including climbing.
